About The Sweetwater Sea B&B

Innkeepers Mike and Cecilia welcome you to The Sweetwater Sea Bed and Breakfast, a true B&B offering the modern comforts of a boutique inn with the relaxing home-style atmosphere only a small bed and breakfast can provide. A year-round, warm, and inviting destination that is the perfect place for a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a restful evening during your business travels.

You don’t have to be cold or cramped to experience the great outdoors of northern Michigan.  If you want to enjoy a hassle-free get-away, with creature comforts intact, then The Sweetwater Sea Bed and Breakfast has what you are looking for.  Our custom home completed in 2022 is designed to be your back-to-nature home away from home.

Premium Creature Comforts

We have four inviting bedrooms, each with a large warm bed and private bathroom to ensure you have personal space away from the crowd.

Two large common areas indoors, and a multi-level patio outdoors let you spread out, or come together,

With a vaulted ceiling, stone accents, and a “glass wall” facing the lake, our great room is your all-seasons window on the world: heated, air-conditioned, and with no mosquitoes.  A perfect place for hanging out, a family game, or a small event.  The walk-out level common room has a small refrigerator and microwave, a dining table, and a comfortable TV area.  It opens directly to the patio where the large fire cauldron gives the flicker and warmth of a big gas-fueled campfire without constant poking and prodding and shifting of chairs to avoid the smoke.  Another part of the patio offers a large gas grill and a dining table with colorful market umbrella.

Breakfast Included

And, of course, hot coffee and a complete home-cooked breakfast is ready for you in the morning, just steps from your room, with the option to sit at the dining room table with others, a private bistro table on the porch, or one of the many other sitting areas in and around the house.

Explore The Beach

Leaving the house is just as wonderful.  Our private beach lies a only few steps below the patio.  With sandy areas for enjoying the sun, pockets of marvelously varied stones and rocks, and the rolling surf of a sea without the salt (or sharks) just waiting for you to indulge.  And the beach does not end at our property, you can wander for miles in either direction.  Explore, exercise, or comb the beach literally as far as your feet will take you.  Bring your kayak or snorkel equipment to find our local shipwreck, visible from the surface just a few hundred yards away!

Northern Michigan

You will cherish our location, removed from the bustle of town, yet just off of the main highway through the region - US 23.  Relax and enjoy the house and beach, then jump in your car and be at one of the many exciting places to visit and things to do along US-23 within minutes.  Or turn inland and enjoy a scenic drive down one of the many well-maintained rural routes that crisscross the woods, national forest, farmland, and small towns of northern Michigan.

Accessability

Extra-wide handicap parking spot, a lift onto the porch, and ADA compliant bathroom in the Ontario room make the Sweetwater Sea B&B a pleasant place for mobility-challenged.

Free Electric Vehicle Charging

A special parking spot is provided for an EV with free 10 kW type-2 charging.

Our Furry Assistant

Our furry assistant innkeeper, Charlie, helps out behind the scenes. He stays on our private side of the Inn but loves to check out who is staying with us.  If you are a dog lover let us know so we can introduce you.

What's in a Name?

In 1615, French explorer Samuel de Champlain became the first European to describe his encounter with a Great Lake.  When he came to the shore of Lake Huron, he was astounded by what he found.  A vast body of water extending as far as the eye can see, with rolling waves and a strong sea breeze.  It was an ocean, but surprisingly it was not salty.  Using the European term for fresh water, he called it “la mer douce” - The Sweetwater Sea.

At the Sweetwater Sea Bed and Breakfast, we pride ourselves on offering you the opportunity to wake up each morning to our awesome expanse of fresh water and share the amazement felt by de Champlain.  Between our patio and Sauble Beach, Ontario, directly East, stands just over 100 miles of sweet water.
